I read about Type 2 fun a few months back and it help me understand mys
elf and my urge to do to things that I do. Maybe you too?
Type 1 fun: Doing something and it’s fun the entire time it’s happening. Eg.
Type 2 fun: Doing something and it being too hard to be fun but then there are fun parts, and not fun parts and then fun parts again. And we look back on it – and it’s fun to look back on.
Let’s be honest here, I do not ‘enjoy’ 100% of my adventures. Actually sometimes I wonder if I even ‘enjoy’ half of the time…but there is something special about looking back at the hardest most difficult times with pride. With satisfaction and with a story to tell.
My two favourite quotes:
“An adventure is something that while it’s happening you wish it wasn’t” – Mark Twain
“The hilltop hour would not be half so wonderful if there were no dark valleys to traverse”. — Helen Keller
If famous quotable authors say it’s OK to feel like this…than it’s definitely OK.
And there is,
Type 3 fun…which I’m also proud to have survived but it wasn’t fun the entire time it was happening… but I guess it’s a good story.
